- Course Description
This introductory course examines cultural representations of modern womanhood in the era often described as “postfeminist.” Using Sex and the City as a foundational text alongside other contemporary television, film, and digital media texts, students will apply feminist analytical methods to examine how gender, sexuality, class, and race shape narratives about personal fulfillment and women’s ever-shifting roles in society. By the end of the course, students will be able to critically read media texts, analyze assumptions about empowerment and choice, and understand how popular culture reflects and shapes broader debates about identity and social life today.
